It’s Christmas!
Or at least it feels like it.
Today our seemingly permanently disgruntled postal person threw on our doorstep three packages of varying sizes. The contents were as follows:
- The Prima Latina Student workbook, teacher’s book, and CD
- Henle First Year, Grammar book, Answer Key and Study Guide
- Climbing Parnassus by Tracy Lee Simmons
- Latin-Centered Curriculum by Andrew Campbell
- The Harp and the Laurel Wreath by Laura M. Berquist
- The Eager Reader Bible Story Book
- We Sing America book and CD
We also recently received The Bulfinch Press One Hundred Saints and The Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading recently. If you combine all this with Math-U-See’s Alpha which I bought last year and some read-alouds from our shelves and the library, you’ll have a very good idea what we’ll be doing for the 2007-2008 school year. I’m planning on diving into the Henle tonight/tomorrow though because I’m just that excited. *grin*
There is much joy in our household this afternoon.
And yes, I know, we are throughly weird.

Hey, we’re starting Prima Latina this year too!
I’m still not sure how it’ll fit into our day or how many sessions per week to break it up into, so we’re going to start it in the summer and see how it goes.
I recommend the CD of Latin music (hymns, not salsa) that Memoria Press sells. I’ve been playing it in the car. Now my three year old loves to yell “GENITORI GENITOQUE GENITORI GENITOQUE” at the top of his lungs.

That sounds like a good idea. I hope you’ll post something about how it goes for you and your family! Maybe we’ll try starting it a little earlier than the other stuff too. Matt and I have started studying our Latin and having conversations about noun declensions and Latin vocab around the table, which is lots of fun. I’m hoping that if we can keep this up Emma will really be interested in doing this when we start with her. (Isn’t that part of the Suzuki idea w/ music? it sounds vaguely familiar)
I have that CD in the mail - I bought it used from someone on the LatinCenteredCurriculum yahoo group. I’m looking forward to hearing it, it sounds like it will be neat.

Oh, you guys will *love* doing Latin together! I love Henle! I still have wild and gloriously off-base dreams that Zorak will pick it up and study it with me. He started to, but on the third night of studying, he looked at me and said, “How many nights are we going to have to do this?” I guess I probably shouldn’t have replied, “Forever.” Yeah, I can see how that might’ve been a bit of a damper on the ol’ spirits.
PL was delightful for us. It’s such a gentle, exploratory intro to Latin. More vocab than any grammar, but perfect for that age range. Actually, John is back in PL this semester - and at six y.o. now, I think it’s right on the money for him. James is still loving LfC, but I find myself hoping and praying he’ll hurry up and finish A so we can get the DVD’s (rather than the VHS we currently have for A) when we buy B.

LOL! Yes, that might have been a good time for a vague “oh, a while I guess, until we feel like we have a good handle on it…” while stifling a snicker. Thankfully Matt has a gift and a real interest in languages - he’s much better at it than I am. I’m not sure if he’ll keep it up this summer while we’re in the throws of house building, but I feel certain that he’ll be able to catch up with me if he starts up again in the fall.
