Ouch
Last night I absent-mindedly did something and it turned out to be quite a painful experience. I had broiled a frittata in the oven and taken it out to cool on the stove. I was about to cut a kiwi for the kids and was thinking about what else I would cut up when I suddenly remembered that the burner under the frittata was probably still hot. Since the frittata was a little, um, well done on top I thought that the last thing it needed was to be on a hot burner, so I picked up the pan to move it. And yes, I forgot to use the hot pad. Wow did that hurt. I had my hand on a cold pack for quite awhile then in cool water once I read online that cool water is better. I took some tylenol too, and that seemed to help. By about 11:30 I felt like I could perhaps sleep without my hand being cooled, and I managed to do so, although it was a restless night.
This morning it is quite a bit better, but I have some definite red and white areas where the contact between my hand and the pan was the strongest. I am very clumsy with my right hand (and thank goodness it is my right!) now but I can at least change a diaper and pick up Nathan (awkwardly, but safely) I really hope I’ve learned my lesson this time… but I’m not sure I would bet on it. *sigh*
Good thing I’m ahead on my packing… and I thought having the kids come down with a cold this week was rough!

When my almost-five-year-old was about two weeks old, I was straining a pot of chicken stock at the sink. The pot slipped, I tried to adjust my grip, and ended up pouring boiling hot stock over my left hand. Oof! Darwin had to drive an hour each way to bring his mother to stay with us for the next day because I was having such trouble flexing my hand — making changing diapers and nursing a real treat, let me tell you. (Though you probably know just what I mean!)
Burns=not good fun.

Yeah, definitely not good fun. I was about ready to cry when Matt left for the office this morning, but the day is going better than I thought it would. It doesn’t hurt as much as it did this morning, and I’m figuring out how to use my hand without bothering the bad spots too much. That must have really hurt to have it all over your hand!

You have my sympathies - I once grabbed a cookie sheet without a hot pad. I actually heard my skin sizzle! It’s amazing how much it hurts, and the pain goes on and on. The thing that really saved me was aloe vera gel… at first I was applying it several times an hour because it made me feel so much better.
